Talking With Northfield Candidate Dick Rodgers (Audio)

(download)

Apologies for the lack of quality, this came about 2 mins after an impromptu jump off the bus to go and talk to him. So I was a tiny bit unprepared! Nevertheless, here it is. I'm going 'unlive' for a while (because nothing is exciting is happening at all) but I'm starting up again when Election Night gets underway.

Meeting Northfield Candidate Dick Rodgers (dressed as Big Ben) at the side of Bristol Road

Was just leaving Northfield disappointed at the lack of exciting election action when I caught Dick Rodgers campaigning whilst dressed as Big Ben at the side of the road. Had a quick chat, which I'll upload at home, but for now here's a picture! Who said journeying around Birmingham on election day wasn't worth it?

Polling station in Northfield

So here is the polling station in Northfield. Outside because not a lot was going on inside and any hard figures about turnout weren't available. Oh well, at least I got to see the processes of democracy in action

Candidate dressed as the houses of parliament on bristol road

On the bus to Northfield and I've just seen Northfield candidate Dick Rodgers standing on the edge of the Bristol road dressed as the houses of parliament. Surreal but effective. Just missed getting a photo, will try on the way back.

First Polling Station

Just been to the first polling station in ladywood, and it had all the electricity of a graveyard. Dull, dreary and a million miles away from the neon-drenched showbiz of the leaders debates. No wonder people feel detatched from politics!

Today's Papers

Just seen today's papers, and the tabloids have truly lived up to their ridiculous nature. The Mirror's gone for a nice bit of class discrimination, showing david cameron in his eton days, as well as descending into schoolboy territory by suggesting dave, boris johnson and everyone who ever went to eton has a small penis. Obviously leadership skills are directly related to tackle proportion, although the Mirror's avoided disclosing the size of Mr. Brown's dinkle.

The Sun has decided to mock up the famous obama poster by sticking dave's mug there instead, completely ignoring the fact that cameron is a conservative and obama is a democrat. And the fact murdoch's US outlets were pro-McCain in the last election, who the non-goldfish among us may remember was obama's opponent.

Public Transport

Just started my election day journey and got swore at by a bus driver. My advice to whoever gets power on public transport? If you want people to take buses, try replacing the louts who drive them. Anyway, onto ladywood then onto northfield Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device

Election Day

Hello everyone!

It's Election Day, and to celebrate what could be an extremely interesting day of bustling church halls or an extremely dull day of empty school halls, I've decided to do a bit of live blogging, with thoughts, pictures and hopefully, some words from people I meet along the way.

All of this blog should also appear on my main blog smithrecycled.wordpress.com, so keep an eye out!
